This searchable index is taken from the published indexes to the Journal volumes 1 to 22. The full index contains alphabetical lists of Authors and Contributors (with Titles); Subjects; and Surnames of genealogical interest. To check a surname, first select your intial letter, then to search on the index page use the Find facility of your browser (Ctrl+F in most browsers). Note that some names are combined eg BROOK(E)(S) so if the name you want is not found you should browse the page to see if it is in this form, or search only for BROOK.

This index excludes surnames contained in published items marked as ‘not indexed’ in the corresponding SUBJECT index, typically BFHS members’ interest profiles, extensive census & other lists and early BFHS members’ birth briefs.

Original spellings have been preserved as far as possible. Strict alphabetical order has occasionally been sacrificed in order to group closely similar surname variants; selected references to other variant surnames are also shown under related surnames.

In the following example, the first column contains the surname (not repeated on succeeding rows); the second column is the volume number (covering two years); the third shows the issue number (four issues per year) separated by a point from the page number(s) or range of pages; further entries in the same volume are separated by semicolons. One line is given for each volume and the surname is not repeated. Letters shown in parentheses may or may not occur in any given occurrence of the name.
